Congratulations to the September Undergraduate Researchers of the Month, Lauren Gledhill, Erina Kotreli, and Zachary Jones!
Lauren Gledhill is a senior majoring in biology with a concentration in molecular/cell biology and biotechnology, graduating in spring 2026. She has spent her undergraduate research career in Dr. Syzmon Ciesielski’s lab studying the interactions of human molecular chaperone proteins using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Lauren has presented their work at several conferences, including the 2024 Natural Sciences Symposium, the 2024 Undergraduate-Graduate Learning, Inquiry, and Distinctive Experimentation Symposium (U-GLIDE), the 2025 Florida Undergraduate Research Conference (FURC), the 2025 American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology’s Annual Meeting (ASBMB), and the 2025 Advancements in Research, Inquiry and Scholarship Exhibition (ARISE). After graduation, she plans to pursue a PhD and establish her own research lab.
Erina Kotreli is a biomedical sciences major who also plans to graduate in spring 2026 and has worked with Dr. Szymon Ciesielski for the past 2 years. Their research focuses on examining the structure and function of the DNAJB1 protein. She has presented their work at 7 conferences, including the American Chemical Society’s 2024 Florida Annual Meeting and Exposition (FAME), the 2025 Florida Undergraduate Research Conference (FURC), and the 2025 Showcase of Osprey Advancements in Research and Scholarship (SOARS). After she graduates, Erina plans to go to medical school to become a surgeon.
Zachary Jones, a senior majoring in biomedical sciences, is working on a project that is part of a collaboration between Dr. Syzmon Ciesielski and Dr. Marie Mooney from the 成人大片Department of Biology. Their project investigates the role of molecular chaperones in congenital disorders of glycosylation. Zachary has presented their findings in poster format at several conferences, including the 2024 Undergraduate-Graduate Learning, Inquiry, and Distinctive Experimentation Symposium (U-GLIDE), the 2025 Florida Undergraduate Research Conference (FURC), and the 2025 Showcase of Osprey Advancements in Research and Scholarship (SOARS). After he graduates next spring, Zachary plans to attend medical school to pursue a career as a physician.
The 2025 SOARS Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year
Congratulations to Dr. Jacqueline Meier, assistant professor of anthropology at the 成人大片, on being named the SOARS 2025 Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year! One of Dr. Meier’s students who nominated her wrote, “Dr. Meier’s mentorship has profoundly shaped my academic and professional journey … She has impacted many students through both her courses and her research lab, doing everything in her power to help her students succeed. Because of her, I have found a field of research that I wish to engage with for the rest of my career.”
Dr. Meier’s award was presented as part of the 2025 Showcase of Osprey Achievements in Research and Scholarship (SOARS), which was held on Friday, April 11 in the John A. Delaney Student Union.
Congratulations, Dr. Jacqueline Meier, on this well-deserved honor and achievement!
