New Faculty Orientation

The Office of Faculty Excellence, in partnership with the Provost's Office, hosts New Faculty Orientation to welcome new faculty and create a positive and productive transition to UNF. We are so proud of our students, faculty, and staff and we can’t wait for you to meet everyone.

Full-Time, Permanent Faculty

New Faculty Orientation activities for permanent, full-time faculty (i.e., tenure-track, clinical professors, instructors, lecturers, and library faculty) will be held Monday, August 3rd - Wednesday, August 5th, 2026. We are mindful that this is a busy time and have been deliberate in putting together a lineup of helpful information that you will need in your first semester. 

We realize some of you are returning 成人大片faculty who have been hired into a new full-time position. Although you might not be new to UNF, we encourage you to join us for the New Faculty Orientation events to become better acquainted with your fellow new faculty and the resources available to you as full-time faculty.

After reviewing the schedule of events below, for the events you plan to attend. Please register by Friday, July 24th, as this will allow us to properly prepare for your attendance and plan for food and space.

Adjunct and Visiting Faculty

Adjunct and visiting faculty are invited to join a self-guided orientation via Canvas, please enroll here.

Visiting faculty joining 成人大片for the first time are invited to attend a brief orientation session from 9:00 - 11:30 on Thursday, August 6th. Please  by Monday, August 3rd so we can properly plan for your attendance.

8:30 - 9:00 Registration and Check-In

9:00 - 10:00 Welcome Breakfast 
Location: Talon Room (Building 16, Room 4202)

Join us for breakfast as Interim President Falconetti and Provost Patterson welcome new faculty to the 成人大片. Go Ospreys!

10:15 - 11:30 Getting to Know Our University and Our Colleagues 
Location: Talon Room (Building 16, Room 4202)

Dr. Juliana Leding, Director of the Office of Faculty Excellence, will give a brief introduction to the 成人大片Community and we will start getting to know our fellow colleagues.

11:30 - 12:00 Transition to Building 4 for Lunch
Location: Talon Room (Building 16, Room 4202)
Take a walk through part of campus as we transition to Building 4 for lunch and our afternoon activities.

12:00 - 12:45 Lunch
Location: Building 4, Room 1704

Meet faculty leaders from across the university in a relaxed atmosphere over lunch.

1:00 - 4:30 Human Resources New Employee Orientation for Faculty
Location: Building 4, Room 2305

成人大片Human Resources will provide an overview of benefit programs and retirement options. Information on how to locate valuable information on the 成人大片and state websites, as well as what to expect from People First, the State plan administrator, will be provided.
Please note: You will need to bring original documentation to complete the I-9 form during the Human Resources portion of orientation. Please visit for information about the original documentation needed.  In addition, you will need to bring your bank account and routing information to the HR session to set up your direct deposit.
*All faculty members new to 成人大片must attend this session. If you were previously employed at 成人大片in a position that did not receive benefits (e.g., as an Adjunct Professor), you should attend this session to learn about benefit programs. If you were previously employed at 成人大片in a position that received benefits (e.g., as a Visiting Professor), then you do not  have to attend this session. Tuesday, August 4th

8:45 Meet to Walk to Thomas G. Carpenter Library
Location: Building 4, Room 1704

Gather in Building 4 to walk to the library, or meet us there at 9:00 for breakfast.

9:00 - 10:15 Breakfast with the Library: Library Resources for Faculty
Location: Thomas G. Carpenter Library, Room 2102

The Library will host breakfast and present an information session describing Library resources for faculty, how to request classroom library instruction, library liaison services, and other useful resources.

10:30 - 11:30 Student Success: Getting to Know Our Students
Location: Building 4, Room 1704

The Office of Student Success will present data describing our 成人大片student population, including data specifically relevant to student success metrics and information about the many resources available to students to aid them in their success.​​​​​​​ 

11:30 - 12:30 Dean of Students: Resources to Support the 成人大片Community
Location: Building 4, Room 1704

Dean of Students Rachel Winter will share information about the many resources available through the Dean of Students Office to help faculty support our 成人大片students, such as the Victim Advocacy Program, the Student Ombuds, and the Student Conduct Board.

12:30 - 1:15 Lunch with the Registrar
Location: Building 4, Room 1704

Join us for a relaxed lunch while UNF’s Registrar presents important details and deadlines necessary for your role as 成人大片faculty.

1:30 - 2:00 Student Support Opportunities
Location: Building 4, Room 1704

Individuals from offices around campus will discuss ways to support our students, including student athletes and students registered with the Student Accessibility Center (SAC).

2:00 - 3:00 Faculty Success: Thinking Beyond the First Semester with OFE
Location: Building 4, Room 1704

Join the Director of the Office for Faculty Excellence for a discussion on the future of your academic career at UNF. We will discuss topics such as planning for annual evaluations, understanding promotion timelines and the steps in the promotion process, and the resources available to support you with your professional development.

3:00 - 4:00 Tips and Trivia with AVP of Faculty Relations
Location: Building 4, Room 1704

Join Assistant Vice President of Faculty Relations, Dr. Michael Binder, for an opportunity to ask questions about being a faculty member at UNF, share tips and make connections with your new colleagues, and show off your knowledge of UNF.

Wednesday, August 5th

 9:00 - 11:00 Canvas Basics Training
Location: Thomas G. Carpenter Library, Room 2102

Join an interactive, hands-on training session to help new faculty get comfortable using Canvas, UNF’s course management system. Participants will actively explore the Canvas interface and practice building course content including assignments, quizzes, and discussions. Come ready to click, create, and collaborate!

11:15 - 12:15 Office of Teaching & Learning Overview
Location: Building 4, Room 1704

This session will introduce UNF's new Office of Teaching and Learning and the services that will be available, including Instructional Design, Canvas support, media and technology support, and more.

12:30 - 1:30 Lunch for Tenure-Track Faculty with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP)
Recommended for Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, Professors, and Chairs/Deans
Location: Building 4, Room 1703

Tenure-track faculty are invited to attend lunch hosted by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) to learn about the various resources available to them as they embark on their Research and Scholarship journey at UNF.

12:30 - 1:30 Lunch for Non-Tenure Track Faculty: Tools for Non-Tenure Track Success Lunch
Recommended for Instructors, Lecturers, Clinical Assistant Professors, and Library Faculty
Location: Building 4, Room 1704

Instructors, Lecturers, Clinical Assistant Professors, and Library Faculty are invited to attend this lunch session with OFE Faculty Fellow Dr. David MacKinnon to learn about the various resources available for non-tenure track faculty, including information about promotion and professional development leave.

1:45 - 2:45 Using Classroom Technology
Location: Building 4, Room 1704

Join Justin Begle, Director of Academic Technology, for a brief introduction to ITS and using the technology in our 成人大片classrooms. New faculty will be invited to demonstrate their understanding of the technology and encouraged to visit their classrooms before the first day of class to get a better understanding of how to utilize the classroom technology.

2:45 - 3:45 Legal Briefing from the Office of General Counsel
Location: Building 4, Room 1704

Justin Sorrell and John Reis from the Office of General Counsel will present information relevant to faculty working in Florida, including issues that impact the State University System. For example, they will discuss the Sunshine Law and how it relates to email and texts, Conflict of Interest disclosures, FERPA, etc.

4:00 - 5:00 Meet & Greet Social
Location: Talon Room (Building 16, Room 4202)

As we conclude New Faculty Orientation, join us at this special event, offering a relaxed atmosphere for engagement with Interim President Falconetti, Provost Patterson, members of the President’s Cabinet and Provost’s Leadership team, Deans, Chairs, and colleagues from across UNF.
Light appetizers and drinks will be served.
