AI for Work and Life Certificate Draws Interest from 50,000 Worldwide

UNf AI for work and life certificate with 19,000+ certificates

In response to demand for AI literacy training, 成人大片developed a tangible, practical credential that could be completed not only by students but also by learners anywhere in the world.

It was offered for free during its initial launch in fall 2025.

It was designed to fill a critical gap in AI education. None of the AI offerings appeared to address both personal and professional uses of the technology. With this insight in mind, the idea for an AI for Work and Life certificate was born.

The challenge was audacious: to develop a high-quality program quickly, at no cost to participants, and to emphasize not only practical applications but also ethical reasoning and the limitations of generative systems. Normally, such a project would take a semester (or longer), and with expenses virtually unknown, the risk of exceeding even a generous budget remained high.

Once again, UNF’s agility made the difference. The initial interdisciplinary Intro to AI digital badge, completed by thousands of 成人大片students, served as a proof of concept for how 成人大片could quickly scale AI education while maintaining academic integrity and broad faculty engagement.

Building on that success, a small working group organized by Jennifer Muller, Associate Director in the Project Management Office, met weekly with decision-makers from across the University and GetCertificate.com, a third-party platform that partnered to deliver the certificate. Led by AI Faculty Fellow Dr. Josh Gellers, the team designed the curriculum, recruited talent, and pitched the project to leading experts to secure instructors for each module. The University recruited subject-matter experts internally and from beyond the region.

成人大片Professional and Lifelong Learning assisted with delivery and registration. NLP Logix, a local AI consultancy, sponsored the program.

The AI for Work and Life certificate was developed and launched in just 4 months. No staff or faculty were assigned to the effort full-time, and the only additional costs incurred totaled $500.

A coordinated media strategy and partnerships drove rapid enrollment. The decision to offer recorded content on a synchronous schedule across multiple platforms sparked time-bound enthusiasm, all too often lost in the era of streaming. Watch parties formed organically. Participants discussed weekly modules live on LinkedIn. Instructors interacted with students in real time. YouTube viewership surged. Participants shared their completed digital certificates on social media, spurring a second wave of enrollments before the program transitioned to a pay model in 2026.

In addition to nearly 50,000 learners registering for the class, the YouTube content has received approximately 175,000 views. The resulting increase in UNF’s brand awareness exceeded the value of the University’s entire marketing budget for FY 2024.

Security Operations Center

The Student-Led Security Operations Center (SOC) remains a dynamic hub for experiential learning and campus impact. Consistent with the University’s commitment to hands-on learning, the SOC provides students with real-world cybersecurity experience in a professional environment, where they actively help protect the University’s digital ecosystem.

Over the past year, the program has grown significantly, increasing student staffing from 2 to 9 participants, plus a dedicated SOC manager. Through structured onboarding, mentorship, and collaboration with 成人大片security professionals, students strengthen their technical expertise, develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and gain career-ready experience. Roles such as Security Operations Center Analyst offer meaningful, applied opportunities that enhance both student success and institutional security.

This growth is further supported by the planned development of a new dedicated SOC space, made possible through grant funding. This investment not only enhances the student learning environment but also positions the program for future expansion. With a forward-looking approach, the SOC is exploring opportunities to extend its impact beyond UNF, with an eye toward greater community outreach and engagement.

RESEARCH & INNOVATION

成人大片employees at a laptop excited about boomiHow Boomi is Connecting UNF’s Integration Journey

At UNF, the challenge of managing a patchwork of disconnected systems had long impacted the ability to support thousands of students, faculty and staff efficiently. With more than 600 active integrations across campus, the complexity of tying systems together often led to inefficiencies and occasional loss of functionality.

Seeking to scale and innovate, 成人大片turned to Boomi, a cloud-native integration platform that unifies digital tools and streamlines operations.

“This initiative was about more than just connecting systems. It was a campus-wide IT effort," said Hans Priepke, Director of Shared Platform Services. “From developers completing targeted training, to architects designing the platform’s backend, to teams evaluating proof-of-concept options, it was the people driving innovation and laying the foundation for long-term sustainability.”

Why Boomi Matters

UNF’s leadership recognized that true modernization required more than patching legacy systems. To achieve the university’s long-term strategic goals, a modern integration platform was essential.

Boomi’s flexibility supports evolving tech needs. It makes it easier for all ITS to develop and maintain connections between systems. By serving as a central hub, Boomi helps expedite integration work and leverage the University's existing resources.

The Boomi Journey

UNF’s Boomi initiative began with a clear and structured roadmap. From the outset, the project team partnered with the vendor for ongoing support and guidance as it completed both self-paced and instructor-led training to establish a solid foundation.

To confirm that it would fit UNF’s environment, teams from across ITS, including Shared Application Services, Shared Infrastructure Services, Shared Platform Services, plus Banner & Workday Operations, collaborated on several proof of concept scenarios to level up skills and get teams ready to build the first live integrations.

Unlocking Possibilities through Collaboration

The collaboration has helped unlock new possibilities by aligning teams around key platform enhancements. Information Security has lent its expertise by facilitating single sign-on and advising on best security practices for integrations. The Project Management Office provided business analysis skills to ensure the platform's use aligns with the project management process and supports integrators' efficient work.

Catrina Ashley, the project management lead, worked in cohesion with Priepke. "All teams worked together to ensure the platform was production-ready, secure and reliable," said Ashley. "Every integration should make someone’s day easier, be it our students, faculty or staff. Boomi is helping us deliver those improvements consistently."

Feathering the Nest: Bringing U-N-F to life

The University came alive during the first-ever Feathering the Nest in August 2025. A spirited, weeklong celebration ahead of the new academic year, it brought Faculty and staff from every corner of the University together, thanks to creative coordination and Osprey spirit.

The drone photo became the talk of the University. A massive group shot of about 1,000 faculty and staff wearing True North t-shirts formed the letters U-N-F as a drone captured the moment.

Justin Begle, director of academic research technology, ensured everything was in place on the lawn at the J.B. Coxwell Amphitheater for the photo. He prepared for the day a month in advance by coordinating with other departments, including 成人大片Health and Safety, the University Police Department, and 成人大片Maintenance.

“One challenge was ensuring safe access to the Student Union roof for camera setup, which required fall protection coordination with facilities staff,” explained Begle. “We had to adjust the drone spacing calculations based on turnout estimates, which required quick recalibration of the layout plan. We included a PA system at the last minute to play music while folks were lining up and to talk to the crowd.”

Robert Richardson, assistant director of research technology services, piloted the drone after mapping the location of the U-N-F letters using Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) technologies.

“The biggest technical challenge was determining the ideal size and placement of the letters on the lawn — they needed to be appropriately sized to be visually impactful,” Richardson said.

Impact achieved. The photo was a huge hit on campus and in the community.

AI Symposium: Showcasing Leadership in Emerging Technologies

UNF’s AI Symposium highlighted the University’s growing leadership in innovation, collaboration, and the responsible use of emerging technologies. FULL LETTER FROM THE CIO

Dear Osprey Community,

It is my pleasure to present the 2025–2026 Annual Report for the Information Technology Services (ITS) division at the 成人大片. Over the past year, ITS has built on a period of critical momentum and modernization, delivering strategic technology initiatives that strengthen student success, enable academic and research excellence, and enhance operational effectiveness.

As Interim Vice President of Digital Strategy and Chief Information Officer, my focus has been to ensure that ITS serves as a trusted, strategic partner. Through close collaboration with academic, administrative, and governance partners, we continue to align technology investments with institutional priorities and the university’s long-term strategic goals. This report highlights the progress we have made together and the essential role ITS plays in supporting UNF’s mission.

A major focus during 2025–2026 has been stabilizing and continuously improving Workday to ensure the system delivers long-term value to the university. Following implementation, ITS partnered with functional leaders to refine business processes, enhance system performance, and address campus feedback. This work has strengthened the platform across finance, human resources, budgeting, and payroll operations.

A key area of progress has been enhancing dashboards and reporting capabilities to empower campus users with timely, actionable data. By expanding self-service reporting and improving data transparency, Workday enables departments to make more informed decisions, monitor trends and support operational planning with greater accuracy. These efforts, combined with ongoing ServiceNow enhancements, position 成人大片with a more mature, data-driven digital ecosystem that supports institutional effectiveness and continuous improvement.

Advancing student success and experiential learning is central to our work. Engagement with Academic and Student Affairs remains a key focus, and we supported the formal tracking and transcription of student experiential learning. More directly, ITS provided more than 20 experiential learning opportunities through student internships. The division is proud to offer our students real-world experience.

In parallel, ITS expanded the Student-Led Security Operations Center (SOC), an initiative that uniquely combines institutional risk management with workforce development. 成人大片is actively planning a dedicated space for the SOC, aiming to launch a premier venue for education and engagement.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is another primary focus for our institution. In fall 2025, 成人大片coordinated a free AI Certificate for Work and Life to educate and empower the greater Northeast Florida region. The certificate, sponsored by community partner NLP Logix, exceeded expectations and reached a worldwide audience. ITS is proud to collaborate with campus partners on this unique and relevant program.

Backed by $3 million in funding from the City of Jacksonville, our division played a key role in launching the Esports Flight Deck Arena at 成人大片by providing project management and the infrastructure and specialized technology needed for competitive play. This collaboration positioned the program as one of the nation’s premier hubs for competition, learning, and community engagement.

None of this progress would be possible without the dedication and expertise of the ITS team. Their commitment, professionalism, and willingness to innovate continue to position technology as an enabler of institutional success. As we look ahead, ITS will remain focused on investing in people, strengthening partnerships, and delivering secure, accessible, and sustainable technology solutions that support UNF’s future.

Thank you for your continued collaboration and support. Together, we are building a stronger, more resilient, and more connected 成人大片.
