What Are Lockdown Buttons?
Lockdown Buttons are installed in key locations across campus to support a rapid response during emergencies.
- Buttons are housed in yellow enclosures
- Designed to lock nearby card access-controlled doors
- Send an immediate alert to University Police with your location
When and How to Use a Lockdown Button
Use a Lockdown Button only during an emergency that requires an immediate lockdown (e.g., active threat).
Steps to Take
- Locate the Lockdown Button
Buttons are typically found in classrooms and other designated areas. Familiarize yourself with locations in your space. - Activate the Button
Press the Lockdown Button. This will:

Lock access-controlled doors in the area

- Secure Your Location
- Turn off lights and close blinds/curtains
- Silence phones and electronic devices
- Remain quiet and out of sight
- Stay in Place
- Do not leave until you receive an official “all clear” from law enforcement.

- Follow all directions provided by police or emergency personnel.
